With our trees and shrubs continuing to be drought-stressed, increase the depth and area of mulch to retain existing moisture. Wood chips, mulch or pine straw are all appropriate mulch materials.

If you have trees that are not leafing out as spring arrives, they have probably succumbed to the drought. To avoid problems with insects, pine beetles or other wood-boring insects, have these trees removed as soon as possible.
